New !  Beginners' Open

The Beginner's Open class is for those who have completed the Introduction to Yoga and prefer to continue a gentle practice. It is also ideal for those who have not practiced yoga for awhile or who require some modifications to the practice due to injury or illness. The basic Sivananda class format is followed as taught in the Introduction course:

breathing - the breathing exercises are reviewed and practiced progressively.

warm-ups - the sun salutation is reviewed and many supplementary warm-up exercises are included to rapidly increase joint mobility and muscle strength.

basic postures - the basic series of poses is practiced to provide a well-rounded stimulation for the entire body in a holistic way. Poses are held for short times. Modifications to the practice are introduced as required to make the exercises accessible according to individual needs.

deep relaxation - each class finishes with a deep relaxation. This practice is an essential component of the class. It is only in a state of relaxation that the body can heal and repair itself and integrate the benefit of the postures.

         Monday 5:00 - 6:15 p.m.

           February 1 - March 29:  9 weeks

Level 2:

The Level 2 is for those who have comfortably completed an Introduction course. Breathing exercises (pranayama) and warm-up exercises are followed by a complete series of basic yoga postures designed to bring the whole body into balance.
All the body systems are thoroughly stimulated to function properly:

  • muscles are stretched and toned, the digestive/elimination system is promoted, internal organs are massaged, circulation and oxygen supply increase, joints and bones are strengthened,
  • the nervous system releases tension, etc.

The series is integrated into the body during the final relaxation, a deep relaxation process during the last 10-15 minutes of each class.
